About

Old School Role Playing is about the classic role playing games such as Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, Traveller, Gamma World, OSRIC and Cepheus Engine.

My name is Joe Mohr. I began role playing in 1979. The first game I played was Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 1st Edition. My older brother returned from college that summer and some friends of his invited him to come play this new game that everyone was talking about. Being the little brother I tagged along. I was in junior high school and was about to start high school. Yet these college kids welcomed me to their group willingly. They probably did so as much for the reason that they needed active players as that I was the little brother.

I started playing Traveller much later. For many of my AD&D groups I intended to play Traveller as well but before this was realized the group folded. It was many years later before I finally got a chance to play this great game.

Dungeons and Dragons 5E I began playing much more recently. A few years ago I decided to go to conventions again. I had gone to some in the early 1980s and then did not for a very long time. I started with some local ones and discovered that 5E was pretty much all that was being offered other than Pathfinder. So I tried it. I was not overly thrilled with the version of the game but it is the version being offered everywhere now. When I went to Gen Con last summer there were literally thousands of people playing 5E all day and all night in all seven of the hotels and at Lucas Oil Field. So I decided to buy all of the books and get into this version of the game as well.

I have published a number of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons adventures on Dragonsfoot.org. I have also published many OSRIC adventures on Drivethrurpg and for Expeditious Retreat Publishing. Additionally I have published some Cepheus Engine products and Dungeons and Dragons 5E products on Drivethrurpg.

He was imprisoned for over a hundred years inside of an active volcano called the Mountain of Fire. During that time he became the most powerful Lich in Zanzian history. He spent his time well. He did magical research during his imprisonment. Eventually gnomish explorers excavating near the volcano accidentally broke the magical seals and released him. Now he terrorizes Zanzia again!

Contributing Authors

Two other authors have written contributing pieces to this blog. Both are quite ancient and extremely dangerous. One would be wise to give them the proper respect when commenting on their articles. Terrible things might happen when they become upset.

Tiamat

Tiamat wrote a piece on dragons and will likely write some followup pieces on that subject. She is the foremost expert on Dragons of all kinds.

Aandoran The Defiler

Aandoran is an ancient vampire and loves to play the pipe organ in his lonely castle in the Dark Forest of Upper Zanzia. His organ is a powerful artifact. It creates armies of undead to serve him.
