Ok. Now you have all of your miniatures that you need for game play. You could play on a big grid battle map. Or you could play on something much better.

Paizo has created dozens of individual flip mats for all sorts of adventures. Yes. You could build terrain instead. Terrain building is time consuming. It can also be pretty expensive. You could also buy pre-made terrain. That too is expensive. I will go into those options in later articles but for now lets look at the Pathfinder Flip Mats. I have bought quite a few of these myself and have used them in games at conventions. This last North Texas RPG I ran one of my published adventures keyed to one of these maps.

These maps come in dozens of varieties. Some of these include: forests, castles, dungeons (various types), caverns, various outdoor terrains, cities and urban settings, sewers, taverns, inns and a bunch more. You name it….they probably have one for it. It is an extensive collection. Prices vary depending on size. They have normal, bigger and like giant. The normal ones go for about $15. The bigger ones go for like $25. The giant ones are more. Some sets come with two flip mats instead of one and are more expensive as well. I am going to list some of these here and you can search to find others that meet your needs:

Each mat flips over and has a different map on the other side. This is perfect for making two level dungeons. With the multi map sets you might get four dungeon levels to use. Each map can be written on with dry erase markers or wet erase markers or even permanent markers. Any of these can be erased by following the proper steps.
